Christopher (Chris) Lutsker is a composer for films, brands, video games, and concert music. His musical decisions are primarily concerned with narrative, and his themes are known for being melodic and emotionally compelling–a compositional style derived from his background as a pianist and guitarist specializing in romantic and impressionistic music. Chris’ score for the animated film What a Flop! received the Marion Carter Green Award, an endowed prize given annually by NBR to a short film that exhibits noteworthy use of musical elements. On top of his composing work, he has also contributed instrumental recording and dialogue editing work to films that have featured and received awards at over a dozen film festivals.

Chris is a co-founder and the Lead Copyist for the (post-)production audio team Waves & Staves (site soon to be public), overseeing orchestration and professional standards of notation for projects, including an up-and-coming jazz piano instructional book written by Grammy-nominated Guggenheim Fellow Manuel Valera, musical arrangements from the Pokémon and Saint Seiya animated series for the Sinfoni Arequipean Orchestra and “A Live-to-Film Celebration” concert for the NYC-based Chicken Combo Jazz Orchestra. Chris also maintains a reputation as a copyist for clients in both concert and media composition.

Chris’ music has been recorded and performed by multiple orchestras and ensembles, including the Moscow Symphony, Budapest Symphony, NYU, Brooklyn College Conservatory, and Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras, and the ACES Educational Center for the Arts. Additionally, he himself has performed as an electric and upright bassist in and around New York City at venues such as Liberty Warehouse, Bohemian National Hall, Central Park, Frederick Loewe Theatre, The Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts, and The Abbey Inn & Spa. He also has experience performing in Off-Broadway musical productions, including Rent, Sunday in the Park with George, and Sondheim on Sondheim.

Chris earned a M.M. degree in Screen Scoring and served as an Adjunct Lecturer at New York University. He earned his B.M. degree in Music Composition from Brooklyn College with a merit scholarship under the Macaulay Honors program.
